Breakfast For Dinner

There are some that believe that breakfast should stay in the morning. With the exception of brunch, there are many people who don’t think that breakfast foods below in the afternoon and evening hours, but they are missing out on scores of food that are delicious and nutritious meals for your entire family. These recipes are my favorite recipes that are hits in my family and that those that will change the minds of those who are unsure of whether or not breakfast belongs on the dinner menu.


Chicken and waffles

One of the most incredible food combinations are fried chicken and homemade waffles. People who have never tried them before may be skeptical of these two foods being eaten together, but once you try it, you’re going to want to eat this as often as possible. While it’s not the healthiest dinner option, it’s truly a comfort food that combines sweetness and saltiness. The best recipe I’ve found is from Grandbaby Cakes.


Eggs Benedict Burger

For those who still need convincing that breakfast belongs in the evening, try making an Eggs Benedict Burger. It combines a burger, which is an awesome dinner food, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. Again, this isn’t necessarily a healthy meal, but it could always be paired with steamed or roasted veggies and a salad to include more heart-healthy foods. A great recipe I found was The Brewer and the Baker.


Huevos Rancheros

If you love Mexican food and are looking for a more nutritious option for your family, try making Huevos Rancheros using the recipe by Cookie and Kate. This meal is so versatile because you can easily make it a great vegetarian option, you can make it spicy by using chorizo, or you can use a low fat protein by making it with turkey or chicken. Add some avocado for some extra protein and good fat or lay on the cheese and salsa.


Breakfast pizza

Everyone loves pizza. It’s Americans go to dinner, whether it’s from the local pizza shop or from the frozen section of the grocery store. If your family has a taste for pizza, try making one with their favorite breakfast foods like bacon, sausage, or ham and top with cheddar cheese. You can use a frozen crust, one that comes in the refrigerated section, or even make your own. Try mixing different flavors together and incorporate healthy foods like spinach, onions, and green pepper for extra flavor. If using meat, it’s a good idea to cook the meat beforehand. 


Cooking Skills You Need to Master ASAP

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are always a quick option when you’re in a hurry, but if your kitchen skills are limited to basic sandwiches and noodles that go in the microwave, it’s time to work on your cooking wheelhouse. Many people prepare and serve meals for their families, but unless you were taught or acquired these skills over the years, it’s time to learn them as soon as possible.


Chopping an Onion

Onions make an appearance in so many dishes because they add flavor and dimension to whatever you’re cooking. If you don’t know how to properly chop an onion, chances are you’ll end up with different size pieces that will cook unevenly. To chop an onion correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Cut off the top of the onion with your knife, leaving the root intact. The root will help you hold the onion together while you’re chopping it.
  2. Lay the onion on the flat part that you just cut and cut it in half.
  3. Peel off any layers of dried skin of the onion and throw it away
  4. Holding the onion at the root, make small, vertical cuts into the onion, cutting as close to the root as possible.
  5. Still holding onto the root of the onion, make a couple of horizontal cuts.
  6. Pinch the onion together and cut straight down.


How to Store Your Produce

Chances are, you’ve had to throw out your share of produce over the years. It can be incredibly frustrating to have your food go bad because you spend a good deal of money to have fresh produce at your house, so it’s important to know the best ways to store it so it stays fresher for a longer amount of time.


Cooking Pasta

One of the simplest cooking skills to master is learning how to correctly cook pasta. It may seem like an incredibly easy skill, but many people are not cooking it the best way possible and minimize the importance of cooking it right. Properly cooked pasta will be a great base for whatever sauce you’re making for it and there are a couple of things to keep in mind when you cook it.

  1. Make sure the water you cook pasta in tastes like salt water. Most people know to put salt in the water, but they often don’t put in nearly enough to make a difference. Salt will add flavor to the pasta, so make sure there’s plenty in there.
  2. Cook it al dente. You don’t want noodles that are too soft because it actually depletes the nutritional value of the pasta and will be a mushy texture when you eat them.
  3. If you do overcook the pasta, try sautéing it in a pan with some olive oil to help add a bite to the pasta.
